Norfolk Mead Wedding Photography
Getting married at The Norfolk Mead Hotel, looking for a wedding photographer?
Well, you’ve come to the right place! The Norfolk Mead is absolutely stunning!
I’ve photographed a number of weddings at the Norfolk Mead Hotel in Coltishall, and honestly, every single one has been a brilliant. It’s easily one of the best venues in all of Norfolk. That mix of old and new — a gorgeous Georgian manor house paired with the light-drenched Garden Room — just works beautifully.
Oh, and did I mention? I’ve photographed multiple weddings here and I know this venue inside and out. You’re in good hands!

Reasons Why I Love The Norfolk Mead!
A Mini Guide To The Norfolk Mead Hotel
1. The Garden Room
The Garden Room is the star of the show when it comes to the ceremony and reception. It’s a modern, glass-walled space that photographs beautifully.
Perfectly suited for weddings of all sizes, the Garden room is always a wash with natural light. From a photography perspective, this is ideal.
2. Morning Preperations
Because the norfolk mead doubles up as a hotel, thrers no end of rooms that are all great for getting ready in the morning. Ive photographed in several differnt rooms and ive found them all to be prety much perfect.
And because its all on the same grounds, its not unusual to have both couples getting ready at the same time. Its fab when this happens as I can spend my time photographing both!
3. The Georgian Manor House
The original manor house is the venue’s centrepiece, and it brings a bit of timeless elegance to the venue. Although not heavly used for weddings, its has some lovely spots for photos. And just ads to the viarety of locations this venue has to offer.
4. Confetti in the garden
This is one of my all-time favourite spots for confetti photos at any Norfolk venue. Through the walled garden we have this super convenient path, which if I didnt know better was made for confetti photos.
And with the confetti done,we are spoilt for choice when it coems to phoitographing the epic group photo of all your gguests.
5. Eight Acres of Grounds
Eight acres of lovingly kept private grounds mean one thing for couples photos: we are absolutely spoilt for choice.
The walled garden, the rose bushes, the sheltered terrace, the lawns that roll down to the banks of the River Bure — wherever you look, there’s something beautiful. I’ve photographed couples here at all times of year, and it’s never been a problem finding those perfect location.
6. The Walled Garden
At the heart of The Norfolk Mead is their gorgeous walled garden — in the summer months, this place comes into its own, and a large sheltered terrace. It’s an incredible space for couples’ photos, not to mention candid shots, and theres always something happening, be it kids playing, garden games or just general chit chat. Its all conveniantly contained within this space. Which means for both me and the couple you dont have to go far before you invoved in the action!
This is also the perfect spot for group photos (formals), with plenty of greenery and open space its never an issue phtoographing small or large groups.
7. Drinks Reception
Once the ceremoney, confetti are done the team at The Norfolk Mead are brilliant at getting your guests outside and into the grounds. This is where things really start to flow — and it’s one of my favourite parts of any wedding day to photograph.
Generaly speaking everyone stays mostly within the walled garden, and for me (and the couple) this is what you want. For me everyone is within close proximity, meaning lots and lots of candid photos, and for the couple, they are always super close to all their guests.
8. Couples Portraits
This is where The Norfolk Mead truly excels as a photography venue.
The riverside location, the walled garden, the front lawn, the woodland — you have so many options for couples portraits that we’ll genuinely be spoilt for choice. If the light is good and we sneak out at golden hour. And towards the river theres quite a bit of reeds and straw-like grass about, this is perfect stuff for couples portraits.
And another favourite location is the Manor House itself.
9. Speeches & Dinner in the Garden Room
After the ceremoney, while all the guests are outside relaxing the team at the Norfolk Mead will be busy changing the The Garden Room from a ceremony room ro reception room. Getting the space ready for food and speeches.
And the space itself lends itself brilliantly to speeches. The open, airy space means everyone can see and hear whats going on, and the venue also has a PA system just incase someone needs a little more volume!
And as Ive mentoned above – the Garden Room is naturaly very light and airy, so photography is a breeze, and if you like those bright and airy shots this is the place for that!
10. Lets get that party started
With the cake cut done its time for the first dance and the party that follows!
Anna and the team will empty the room of tables aheard of time and get the space clear and ready.
When the time rolls around (usually around 7.30) someone (The DJ, Anna or me) will get your guests into place and around the walls encircling the dance floor, before you two make your entrance.
There’s no right or wrong when it comes to the first dance; sometimes you can dance the whole song away, other times you might choose just to dance to the first chorus. Whatever you do, just be yourselves. You’ll have an amazing time.
And with the first dance done, it’s time for you and all your guests to hit the dance floor!

We couldn’t be happier that we chose Matt as our wedding photographer. We enquired with Matt initially because we were so impressed with the quality of work on his website... read more portfolio when we were first planning our wedding. We were also really over the moon with the price of his services compared to other photographers. For the amount of work Matt did on our big day and the results we have ended up with we really are so ecstatic and we wouldn’t even think recommending any other photographer to anyone other than Matt. When we first contacted Matt to enquire his availability, he offered to come to our house or meet at a mutual place and meet face to face to have a no obligation chat which we thought was a really nice personal touch instead of just doing everything on the phone/email. Another thing that made us book Matt was his general persona, as soon as he came for a chat at our house we knew we wanted Matt as our wedding photographer there and then. Matt is a really nice chilled down to earth guy who you can also just have a great chat and laugh with as well as work alongside. Matt also done a pre-wedding shoot for us in a scenic woodland location, we did leave this slightly last minute so we’re so thankful that Matt was able to be flexible and fit us in for this. The outcome of these photos were so so beautiful. I honestly could not fault ANYTHING about Matt. A blooming incredible photographer and have absolutely no regrets about booking at all. So many of our guests at the wedding complimented Matt to us afterwards. The outcome of our wedding photos are simply amazing and I’m so so thankful for everything. Matt kindly uploaded our gallery online after the wedding for us and family/friends to access - and in such a quick timeframe, I thought we would be waiting for at least 6 weeks for so many photos but it was under a month! A couple weeks later Matt then sent us our photos on a USB and a load of prints (didn’t realise we would get prints too) in a beautiful personalised box. Matt was there from when I was getting ready in the morning all the way through to the evening, so covered all of the day which is exactly what we wanted. Another thing we loved about Matt was when we first spoke to him he explained he doesn’t have a set ‘religious’ timeframe he stays for like other photographers do. He works around your day and tailors his time around you, he will stay until he knows he has enough photos and has covered all the evening action - and he certainly did just that. I was also really thankful that Matt captured some photographs of my younger brother at our wedding who hates having his photo taken due to his autism. Matt was so slick and discreet my younger brother didn’t even know he had photos taken of him but I’ve now got some photos of him at our wedding as a lovely memory that I didn’t think I would’ve had before. We are very lucky and blessed to have found Matt when planning our wedding and he captured the most beautiful photographs. Working with Matt was a breeze. We really can’t thank you enough, for capturing our special day. Just perfect. Thank you thank you thank you. ❤️

Right I don't even know where to begin, if you're thinking of booking Matt, seriously do it, this man is amazing. I couldn't list a single thing that wasn't fantastic... read more about him. On first meeting, he was professional, friendly, got our vibe, got what we liked, listened to us and instantly felt like a friend. In the build up he was in touch, made us feel we could contact him, gave us suggestions just everything you could want. On the day, well you can see how this is going to go. He was perfect. He was respectful and kind, he was funny, he helped when I needed people and couldn't find them. He made changes when I suddenly decide to cut some of the 'formal photos' list me and my husband had asked for, because trying get the right people together was like trying to heard cats. But he could see I was getting worried and just understood exactly what I needed. And on top of that, his photography is gorgeous. I saw these previews and I just cried, having always felt self conscious Matt gave me the photos I didn't think I could get. Honestly you will never ever regret having Matt, if you want the best photos to remind you of your wedding day, he's 100% the one you should be booking. Thanks Matt, for everything

From our initial chats through to our wedding evening, Matt was very easy going and a pleasure to work with. Matt listened to our ideas and what we wanted and... read more we can really see this in the photos. Matt used as much of the grounds of Sprowston Manor as we could which produced some amazing shots as well as capturing some great shots throughout the whole day. We are so pleased with the finished pictures and the USB and personalised decorative box was an unexpected but lovely touch. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone.

Matt has photographed my wedding and we have recently had family pictures done, his work is exceptional. The pictures he captures are so emotive and truly leave you with memories... read more to treasure forever. Cannot recommend enough. If i could give 10 stars I would!

I would absolutely recommend Matt to anyone who is thinking of hiring him for photography. We hired him for our wedding in Oct 23, and not only was he responsive... read more to emails and working out the plan beforehand, he was a joy to work with on the day. But the best part is the photos that he has produced are incredible and have helped me remember the day with such clarity and joy that I feel I'll be able to keep the spirit of that day alive for years to come. Everyone I've shown them to has been similarly impressed, my new father in law has made the traditional family calendar for this year featuring several of the photos, and my mother has reliably informed me she has ordered several of the prints and will be adding them to the wall with pride. 10/10, excellent service, excellent product, excellent person.

I highly recommend Matt Dartford Photography to anyone looking for a a high-quality, enjoyable experience. Matt has a great command of people, which really came in handy at my wedding... read more at Dunston Hall Hotel - he was able to corale people into the right places at the right time in a positive manner. I was so impressed with his ability to capture both the standard formals and the natural photographs that look amazing. We all know how difficult it is to capture a nice, in the moment photo! I've added some of my favourite pictures that he took of our day.
