About Matt — Norwich Wedding Photographer
A wedding photographer from the flatlands of Norfolk (well….Norwich)
I’m into lots of geeky stuff — mostly sci-fi and fantasy, as well as board games (esp. geeky ones), cycling, collecting music, illustration, design, and all things amazing, and, of course, my family. I have two young boys who keep me occupied, one mad about Pokémon, the other about Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog. They both routinely beat me at Mario Kart, which I’m told is character-building (it isn’t — it’s devastating every time).
When I’m not photographing weddings, I’m usually out and about on the bike – I love a bit of long-distance cycling, and I try to get away as often as I can, despite the fact Norfolk is amazing, with it’s epic skies and lack of hills, it’s nice to hop on a bike and cycle to London, or Amsterdam and just enjoy the scenery, stop at a pub or three, and if the sun is shining then even better. But when not cycling. It’s all about board games and movies! I’m unapologetically geeky.

I also work as an illustrator and retoucher. Over the years, I’ve worked on small and international campaigns for many household names and brands. I’ve produced work for Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, Muse, Cadbury, and Ministry of Sound, as well as plenty of book and magazine covers. I also help my wife out with her job designing, producing, and photographing wedding books and signs at CluckingBelle Designs.
I’ve always loved visual things, and strangely, my background working as an illustrator benefits me as a Norfolk wedding photographer — it’s all about having a keen eye for composition and aesthetics. Both jobs are really about noticing things before anyone else does.
What do you like about weddings?
What don’t I like about weddings? In my other job, I spend most (okay….ALL) of my day in front of a computer screen. Weddings give me the opportunity to get out, breathe some air, meet amazing people, and just have the best time. It really is an amazing job, I just love it!

Weddings are also the most honest days you can possibly photograph. Nobody’s really pretending. People cry, laugh, get a bit too emotional during the speeches, dance like no one’s watching, and somehow reveal exactly who they are in the process. For someone who loves documentary and candid wedding photography, that’s gold.
How would you describe your photography?
True to life, honest, real, timeless, and natural. I try to avoid photography styles that will look dated in a few years; rather, I like to focus on how the day really is and was. Norfolk Wedding Photography that’s fun and Natural.
In practice (and if I’m doing my job well), that means you’ll barely notice me for large chunks of the day. I move around quietly, I don’t bark directions, and I let the day breathe. I’ll still handle the stuff you want handled — family group shots, a few lovely couple portraits somewhere nice and quiet, making sure nobody panics when it’s time to line up for photos — but the bulk of your gallery will be real candid moments, caught as they actually happened.
What advice would you give to couples looking to get married?
When I got married, I made the mistake of asking a friend to photograph my wedding; it didn’t go all that well. We got a handful of shots I liked, but much of the day was missed, and it’s something I continue to regret to this day — even more so now that I’m a wedding photographer myself!
Find a photographer who knows what they are doing, one with confidence, and one who’s enthusiastic about what they do and enthusiastic about you and your day. If you find that photographer, you can’t go wrong. There’s your perfect photographer out there — maybe it’s me, maybe it’s not, but that’s why it’s important to reach out and have a chat.
What kind of couples do you love working with?
Honestly — all of them. Big weddings, tiny weddings, pub weddings, posh-manor-house weddings, elopements in a field with a handful of witnesses. Traditional, non-traditional, unconventional, quietly elegant or gloriously chaotic. I’m proudly LGBTQ+ friendly, and I love photographing couples from every kind of background, family set-up and faith. The only thing all my favourite couples have in common is that they genuinely care about the people around them, and they’d rather look like themselves than a Pinterest board.
Speaking of which….
If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, drop me a message with your date, your venue (or rough area), and anything else you already know about the day. I’ll get back to you within a day or two, and if it feels like a fit, we’ll take it from there. No hard sell, no stiff sales pitch — just a proper chat about your wedding.
