Sarah & James

The Flint Rooms Wedding Photographer

A Flint Rooms wedding in Norwich is unlike any other I shoot — sofas instead of rows, indoor confetti instead of out. A stunning Norfolk church with a vintage parlour vibe on the inside. Sarah and James’s day was peak Flint Rooms, and I had the best time documenting it.

The Flint Rooms is one of Norwich’s most interesting, quirky, and inclusive wedding venues — and after photographing weddings here a handful of times now, it’s become one of my absolute favourite places to shoot in Norfolk. So when Sarah and James asked me to document their Flint Rooms wedding, I jumped at it.

At first glance, The Flint Room looks like a typical Norfolk church. But once you step inside, the magic happens. It’s anything but standard! The venue is run by two of the loveliest people, Lesley and Trish, who welcome everyone with open arms, making you feel right at home.

Now, onto the wedding!

I arrived a good 20 minutes before the first guest, giving me the perfect opportunity to snap some detail shots and catch up with Lesley and Trish. Soon after, the guests began to arrive, along with James, who was absolutely beaming and cleary excited for what lay ahead.

As everyone settled into their seats (The Flint Room’s casual approach to seating is fantastic—grab a sofa, get cosy, and enjoy!), Sarah arrived outside in a stunning white Rolls-Royce. It might have cost more than my house!
Like James, she couldn’t stop smiling, clearly thrilled for the big moment.

The laughter and chatter hushed as the ceremony was about to begin. With James and his best man waiting at the front, everyone stood as Sarah made her grand entrance.

The ceremony was flawless—filled with smiles, a little laughter, and lots of love. And just like that, the “I dos” were done! Sarah and James were officially husband and wife!

And now for one of my favourite parts...

At The Flint Room, they do things a little differently when it comes to confetti. Instead of heading outside, the confetti toss happens indoors! And let me tell you, it’s perfect. The long aisle is practically made for it! With confetti flying and cheers all around, it was time for drinks and congratulatory hugs. This is my favorite part to capture—candid shots of pure joy.

After about 30 minutes of mingling, I peeked outside to see the sun was playing nice, so I whisked the newlyweds out for some quick couple shots. While The Flint Room doesn’t have a formal garden, it’s surrounded by beautiful trees and cosy spots perfect for photos.

Once we wrapped up outdoors, we headed back inside for more shots in the venue. Lesley and Trish had placed a sofa at the end of the aisle, making for a great photo op. As I was snapping away, I had a fun idea—why not toss the confetti again? Lesley and I grabbed handfuls and threw them in the air for one of my favourite shots of the day!

WHY THE FLINT ROOMS IS A DREAM FOR DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

If you’ve followed my work, you’ll know I lean documentary — natural, candid, very little posing. The Flint Rooms is genuinely one of the easiest Norwich wedding venues to shoot in that style, and there are a few reasons why.

The light is the first thing. Tall arched windows down both sides of the room mean you’ve almost always got soft, directional daylight to work with — lovely for ceremony shots, ring exchanges, and that quiet half-second when one of you is trying not to cry. On overcast Norfolk days, the whole space turns into a giant softbox; on sunny ones you get gorgeous shafts of warm light across the aisle!

The second thing is the layout. Because the seating is sofas and armchairs rather than rigid rows, your guests cluster naturally — leaning in, laughing together, drinks in hand. That gives me far more interesting candids than a traditional venue, where everyone is sitting up straight in identical chairs facing forward. It’s the difference between a posed group photo and a real one.

And the venue’s own quirks — vintage typewriters, the post box, the motorbike, the moss-and-flower altar backdrop — are gifts to a photographer. Detail shots almost compose themselves.

Next up—The Cosy Club!

This trendy spot has become a super popular wedding reception venue, and it’s easy to see why! The staff is always incredible (seriously, they go above and beyond), and the venue has this amazing, boho-chic vibe. It was the perfect place to celebrate with Sarah and James!

And just like that, my time with them came to a close. Though I was only with them for a short while, it was an unforgettable wedding where everything just clicked.

PLANNING A FLINT ROOMS WEDDING — A FEW THINGS COUPLES OFTEN ASK ME

“Will there be space for portraits if it rains?”

Yes. The surrounding trees and the textured flint walls give you really beautiful backdrops within a few steps of the door, with an umbrella in hand, it wont be an issue.  And inside, the styled corners — sofas, vintage props, the candlelit aisle — work brilliantly for portraits when the Norfolk weather isn’t playing nice.

“How long should we book the photographer for?”

The time at the Flnt Rooms is usualy pretty short – they dont do receptions, so, on this wedding (excluding the time at the Cosy Club), 3 hours was enough. But that is just for the time at the Flint Rooms.

“Do you know Lesley and Trish?”

Yep — and they’re a huge part of why a Flint Rooms wedding feels the way it does. They run the place with so much warmth that it sets the tone for the whole day. If you’re booking the venue, you’re already in good hands; they are both legends!
