Stunning Southwood Hall Wedding Photography
Southwood Hall is hands down one of my favourite venues – not just because the staff are incredible and the barn is stunning, but also because of the bridal suite, Cartshed Lodge. It’s one of the most beautiful, bright, and welcoming spaces to get ready in anywhere in Norfolk. With windows on every wall, the natural light is simply fantastic. I love this room.
Southwood Hall sits just outside Norwich in the heart of Norfolk, and it photographs beautifully in every season. From golden summer light spilling across the grounds to moody November skies and sparkler-lit evenings in the barn – it’s a venue that gives you everything.
The Big Day – Sophie & Ben's Perfect Southwood Hall Wedding!
Morning Prep
I arrived nice and early and was instantly greeted by smiles, laughter, and high spirits – not to mention the all-important offer of coffee from Sophie’s lovely mum!
As the morning went on, the energy was high. Everyone was laughing and soaking up the wedding vibes. Hair and makeup were absolutely brilliant, and Sophie? She looked amazing! Once her dress, tiara, and veil were on, it was time for one of my favourite parts – the first looks!
I love first looks. They’re always so much fun to photograph. Sometimes you get giggles of amazement, sometimes you get tears, and sometimes – like today – you get a bit of both! I started with the bridal party, who hadn’t seen Sophie in her dress yet. Cue laughter and happy tears! And then came the big moment: Sophie’s dad saw her for the first time, super emotional and super brilliant!
If you’re getting ready at Southwood Hall, I’d highly recommend keeping the Cartshed Lodge windows unobstructed in the morning. The light that pours through is extraordinary – soft, even, and incredibly flattering. It makes for gorgeous, editorial-style preparation shots without needing a single flash.
We wrapped up the morning prep with a final group photo of the girls before heading to the barn for the main event!
The Perfect Ceremony – Laughs, Smiles, and a Few Happy Tears
The ceremony was everything a wedding should be – filled with laughter, love, and smiles all around.
Ben was feeling a little nervous (totally normal!) – he’s such a lovely guy who isn’t entirely comfortable being the centre of attention. But nerves or not, he absolutely nailed it! With everyone seated, the big moment arrived. First came the bridesmaids and maid of honour, and then Sophie appeared on her dad’s arm. From the moment Ben saw her, he didn’t stop smiling.
From the top of the aisle onwards, the pressure melted away and it was all smiles and giggles. The registrar added just the right touch of humour, and Sophie and Ben ran with it. The ceremony was so upbeat and fun – and their first kiss? Perfectly timed and perfectly framed, even if I do say so myself 😉
Outside for Confetti, Group Photos, and a Bit of Socialising!
After the ceremony, it was time for confetti, group photos, and a well-earned catch-up with family and friends.
Confetti at Southwood Hall is always great. The staff are total pros at helping everyone get into position, and Sophie and Ben made their grand appearance to cheers and applause. Since it was November, the grass was a little wet, so we kept the group photos on the paved area – definitely the right call, especially with Sophie in her gorgeous white dress!
Let the Party Begin!
If you want to make an entrance, take notes from Sophie and Ben! They walked into the reception to “Give It Up” by KC and the Sunshine Band, and the whole room was instantly on its feet – dancing, cheering, and making memories. What a way to kick off the celebrations.
The Southwood Hall barn lends itself perfectly to this kind of reception. The layout, the acoustics, the lighting – all of it comes together to create an incredible atmosphere when the whole room is buzzing.
Sparklers and Dancing!
Being November, it got dark early – which meant it was the perfect time for sparklers. Anna and the team at Southwood organised everyone brilliantly outside, and sparklers never fail to bring out everyone’s inner kid!
Back inside, it was time for cake cutting and the all-important first dance. The venue’s layout meant everyone could gather around the dance floor, making the moment feel extra intimate and special. The DJ seamlessly blended the first dance song into a party anthem, and the floor was packed in seconds.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – the dance floor is my favourite part of any wedding, and this one didn’t disappoint. Everyone brought their A-game, and the energy was electric right through to the end of the night.
The Perfect Ending
As the night wound down, I grabbed Sophie and Ben for one last set of photos before saying my goodbyes. Exhausted but absolutely buzzing, I headed home with a memory card full of incredible images – and a few weeks of editing later I was able to deliver their gallery!
