Great Yarmouth Town Hall Wedding Photography — A Hidden Gem in Norfolk
I’ll be honest — when I was first booked for Great Yarmouth Town Hall wedding photography, I had no idea what to expect. There was almost nothing about the venue online, and I was lucky enough to photograph one of the very first weddings held there. What I found turned out to be one of the most surprising hidden-gem wedding venues in Norfolk — and Selina & Paul’s day turned into one of my favourite weddings of the year.
Selina and Paul first got in touch during Covid. Once we started chatting, I knew straight away this was going to be a special one — the kind of day where the couple’s personalities are so warm and welcoming that everything else takes care of itself.
If you’re researching Great Yarmouth Town Hall as a wedding venue, or just want to see what a Norfolk town hall wedding actually looks and feels like, settle in. There are a *lot* of photos.
Morning Prep
I arrived bright and early at Selina’s house and got snapping. Most of the morning preparations took place in their garden room, but every so often the action spilt into the main house, which made for some lovely natural-light frames as the light moved around.
Today I also had a partner in crime: Peter from Dream Capture Wedding Films — a fantastic videographer and an all-round great guy (link below). We have worked together a number of times and its aways been a pleasure.
The morning flew by — filled with laughter, high spirits and a lot of prosecco.
Down the pub for an early Pint!
With the morning prep wrapped, Peter and I headed to the venue… only to discover Paul and his crew had ducked into the pub on the way. And honestly — why not? It’s his wedding day after all.
When we found them, Paul was in full social mode: chatting, laughing, knocking back a pint like a pro. We grabbed a few candid frames there too — those unguarded “groom on his wedding morning” moments are gold dust.
Eventually, we all made our way over to the Town Hall, where the guests were already gathering. Paul was once again surrounded by friends and family, and he was absolutely loving it.
First Impressions of Great Yarmouth Town Hall
Here’s the thing about Great Yarmouth Town Hall as a wedding venue: it’s hard to put into words just how surprising it is. From the outside, it’s a handsome but unassuming Victorian building. Step through the doors, and you’re in something else entirely.
The main ceremony room has the kind of grandeur you’d usually associate with a premium country-house wedding venue — high ceilings, beautiful natural light through tall windows, and a sense of occasion the second you walk in. Combine that with the sweeping main staircase in the foyer (a wedding photographer’s dream) and you’ve genuinely got one of the most underrated Norfolk wedding venues I’ve worked at.
As the couple’s guests were being seated, the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement. Super fun and easy to photograph!
Selina’s Grand Entrance
The big moment had arrived. Selina, accompanied by her dad, made her entrance down the aisle. Paul looked genuinely stunned (in the best possible way), and Selina and her dad shared smiles and a quiet laugh on the way down — a super sweet little moment that I’m so glad I caught.
The ceremony itself went off without a hitch. Vows were exchanged, loving glances were shared, and before any of us knew it, Selina and Paul were husband and wife.
This is one of the things I love about Norfolk town hall weddings — there’s a directness and warmth to a civil ceremony in a beautiful room with the people you love that’s hard to beat.
A Toast with a Difference
In the main foyer of Great Yarmouth Town Hall there’s a grand sweeping staircase. Not only is it perfect for wedding photography(seriously — natural light, gorgeous lines, a real sense of scale), it also doubled up beautifully as the spot for the post-ceremony toast.
With the toast complete, it was time for confetti. While the couple stayed inside, I gathered everyone outside and lined them up. When the Town Hall doors opened, the cheer was so loud I wouldn’t be surprised if all of Great Yarmouth heard it.
After a bit of socialising (and the appearance of Paul’s incredibly chilled-out boxer dog — who absolutely stole the show for about ten minutes) we headed back inside for group photos.
The Speeches
The speeches were unforgettable! From heartfelt messages from Paul’s two sons to a touching speech from his sister, and finally, the best man, who ramped things up to level 11—it was a rollercoaster of emotions and laughter!
But the real highlight was Selina’s daughter’s speech, which was one of the sweetest moments i’d ever seen at a wedding. She nailed it
Into the Evening
Now let’s talk about the evening. Selina and Paul brought in the big guns for the party — Paul Allen, one of Norfolk’s best wedding DJs. I’ve worked with Paul a few times now and he’s genuinely brilliant — reads a room like nobody else, and totaly gets involved in all the best ways.
After a dreamy first dance (seriously, these two nailed it) the floor turned into a full-on rave. People were dancing like their lives depended on it and the energy was electric. Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better, we squeezed in a bouquet toss. Paul the DJ rallied all the ladies, and Peter and I had a blast capturing the chaos.
Why Great Yarmouth Town Hall Works for Documentary Wedding Photography
Light. The main ceremony room and foyer get beautiful natural light through tall windows for most of the day. That makes a huge difference for a non-flash, documentary-style approach.
The staircase. It’s the kind of architectural feature that gives you a “wow” portrait shot in about 30 seconds, and it works for groups, couple portraits and confetti exits
Compact footprint. Everything happens close together — prep nearby, ceremony, foyer for drinks, reception space — which means almost no time lost shuffling guests between locations.
The town itself. Great Yarmouth’s seafront, market and historic streets are a 5-10 minute walk away if a couple wants more variety in their portrait set.
It’s a venue that punches *way* above its price bracket — the textbook “hidden gem Norfolk wedding venue”
Wrapping Up
All in all, Selina and Paul’s day was pure magic. The couple were an absolute joy to work with, Great Yarmouth Town Hall was a complete knockout, and the vibes were immaculate from morning prep to last dance.
